Things to do

Along with the stunning scenery and inviting Mediterranean climate, Stellenbosch is a favourite stop for locals and international travellers alike.

explore Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch, on the banks of the Eerste River, is the second oldest town in South Africa. It is conveniently located close to Cape Town, in close proximity to the airport, beaches, mountains and rivers. With its oak lined avenues, white gabled Cape Dutch houses and vineyards, Stellenbosch is an excellent destination from which to visit some of the most scenic tourist attractions in the Western Cape.

The town has superb restaurants, lively coffee shops and is home to well-known poets, writers and artists. It is also a shoppers dream. Visit the variety of museums, experience the hiking and mountain-biking trails or test your drive at one of the outstanding golf courses.

Of course, a visit to Stellenbosch would not be complete without soaking up a wine tasting experience. Choose from a variety of magnificient estates and boutique wineries and experience the unique and award winning wines on offer.

Visit the Village Museum, the Toy and Miniature Museum and Oom Samie se Winkel, an authentic general dealer of old, for a glimpse of a bygone era.

The Villiera Wildlife Sanctuary

In conjunction with two neighbours (The Cape Garden Centre and Wild Clover Farm) Villiera set aside 220ha of land as a wildlife sanctuary in 2009. It includes 12 dams plus marsh areas which attract a huge variety of bird-life. Indigenous trees are grown in old milk containers, plastic water bottles etc. by our staff and then bought from them when a year old and planted out. Thousands of indigenous trees have also been donated by the Cape Garden Centre. By May 2015 100 000 trees had been planted. A number of mammals have been introduced in the Wildlife Sanctuary: Springbuck, Kudu, Giraffe, Bontebok, Eland, Gemsbok, Black Wildebeest, Bush Pig, Burchell’s Zebra, common Duiker, Steenbuck and Grysbok. The Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in Koelenhof and access is gained through Villiera’s vineyards. A game drive through the 220 hectares lasts approximately two hours.
